Article

Preface

The following article has been written to provide companies with knowledge of and access to restoration industry standards. The IICRC Standards relating to restoration are consensus documents. They result from a collaborative effort involving global industry experts, trade associations, educational institutions, training schools and other organisations. The standards represent restoration industry best practices and are included as part of the Restoration Technician education and training framework in Australia.

RIA Inc. believes it is essential that companies access industry best practice documents such as the IICRC standards. Claims personnel, loss adjusters and other industry professionals can reference professional restoration processes and standards, determine if work is undertaken following industry standards and raise and address non-standard work, when applicable.

Restoration Industry Standards

The restoration industry is an established trade industry and has been active in Australia for over three decades. Restoration businesses have worked with insurance companies and clients throughout this time to provide support and service to policyholders in times of need.

Like many other trade related industries, the restoration industry has its own set of standards for professional competence, best practice and service to be benchmarked and assessed. The IICRC Standards are consensus documents recognised in Australasia and globally as representing industry best practices for professional restoration.

Restoration practices based on standards can help provide consistent restoration methodology with measurable quality workmanship for your customers, standard claim cycles, fair restoration costs, reduced replacement cost and less waste to landfill.

RIA Inc. advocates for industry standards and best practice and believe this is in the best interest of all stakeholders.

The IICRC Standards are readily available for purchase via the IICRC website. The standards come in both digital and print versions.

These include (amongst others):

  • ANSI/IICRC S500 2021 Standard for Professional Water Damage Restoration
  • ANSI/IICRC S520 2015 Standard for Professional Mould Remediation
  • BRS/IICRC S320 Standard for Professional Assessment, Cleaning and Restoration of Contents
